Back to back weekend

This weekend was a very traveled one for me. I photographed two weddings, one in New York and one in Maryland, so there was about 300 miles distance between one and the other. what made it even more challanging was that the first wedding was on friday night and the second was on Saturday morning, so it didn't give me that much time to sleep!! ;). Luckily I have a great girlfriend that was kind enough to drive me down to Maryland.
She also had a treat by staying at her dad's place... not a bad deal I think... right Hosanna ?:)

Anyway, I wanted to share a few images I took this weekend. I think that for having just a few hours of sleep we did quite well.

Friday night we worked with Maureen and John who got married at the fun Battery Gardens down in battery park.

I had worked there before and I can tell you that it is always a pleasure to work there. Eddie, the metre de (not sure how to spell this!!), is such a pleasant person to work with. He does whatever he can to make everyone happy... the couple, the guests and the vendors... Thanks Eddie.

The wedding was an evening wedding. It took place right outside of the restaurant with the statue of liberty as a background... so not a bad start!!. The party was happening too... people danced almost the entire time and there was no MC or anyone to interupt the natural fun people were having.
Since it was an evening wedding we got some cool skies to work with.... so here are some of the photos we took then.







Melinda and Gary got married in Adelphi, MD. The place was a "tree house" church, not really like that, but it almost looked like it. The church was built in the middle of these woods and the access to it was through a wooden bridge. It was a cool setting.

Everything happened at the same venue and was catered by Pineapple Alley Catering, which did a nice work with the food.

Daphna and Jesse

Sunday was a nice day for a wedding. Blue skies, slow breeze and a nice outdoor space.
Daphna and Jesse got married at Jesse's grandfather's country house. He had built the house in the 30s (I think). Which at the time, it was away from everything!! No, it is a bit away ;), but feels like such a great place to go and relax.

Congratulations to you guys. You were sooo easy to work with!

Two weddings in one

There is only one reason why this country is called the melting pot and that's what makes it so interesting to live in a country that has accepted and hosted so many cultures and people.

This past weekend I was fortunate to see a new wedding ceremony; a Korean one.
Part of why I love my job is because of opportunities like this. When would I ever get to see a Korean ceremony in action if I wasn't photographing one....? most likely never.

It was an interesting day and it almost felt like photographing two different weddings. Sharon and Chris got married in Chantilly, VA at the very elegant Westfield Marriott. They had a Christian (white dress) ceremony in the morning, followed by cocktail hour and an early dinner.

After dinner was over Sharon and Chris went back to change their cloths into traditional Korean garments and we all moved to a different room in the hotel. A smaller space that was intimate enough for just family members was set up by a woman that helped the Korean ceremony develop. A mat was set on the floor, tea was put in a pot and dates and nuts were placed for symbolic acts throughout the ceremony.

There I was witness to a "new wedding". I was photographing the couple getting ready, through the ceremony and then I did a few portraits of them with the new outfits. I thought it was fantastic the way that the day went.

Michelle and Jose Alberto

It is the end of the summer and aparently the skies were crying for it today. We had a wet day, but we managed!! Michelle and Jose Alberto had a beautiful wedding in Roslyn, Long Island. The location was the George Washington Manor, a quaint restaurant/banquet hall.

We had some delays in the morning and some rain in the afternoon, but that didn't stop us from having a good time. We manage to have a fun party and get some nice portraits of them.

The portait of Michelle next to this rugged wall was something that I saw when I arrived at the hotel. It is wall that is behind the check-in desk. I had seen it on my way in and thought... mm that can be a cool background and the lighting is so dramatic, it may very well do a good setting, so when we were rushing out the door to get into the limo, I thought to myself "now or never", so I asked michelle if we could stop for one second. She was game, stepped in front of that wall and I was able to snap 3 or 4 shots. I know I had somehting interesting!!

After the ceremony Jose Alberto helped his grandfather walk down the steps in front of the church. I stopped them at the bottom of the steps and asked them to give a gentle hug. Jose Alberto put his forhead on his grandfather's side and "felt that moment".
